Investment from top tier firms has poured into the affiliate industry over the past year. Platforms have raised significant capital at unicorn level valuations, service providers have been acquired and consolidated and publishers have been scooped up and aggregated. On Martech Record's April webinar on industry investment our panel indicated that this is being driven by the overall rise in e-commerce, the lack of arbitrage opportunities left in search and social and the under penetration of commerce on content sites. So what is next? Where does this investment lead the industry?
Jerry Darko leads coverage of the Digital Marketing sector for William Blair, one of the most active middle market investment banks globally. He has been involved with a number of notable transactions in the performance marketing, affiliate and partnership marketing sector including a $75M capital raise for Impact, the carveout of Pepperjam out of eBay Enterprise and the sale of Clickbooth, amongst others. Mr. Darko has over 13 years of investment banking experience advising Software and Internet business on a wide range of transactions from M&A to private placements to public offerings. Prior to William Blair, Mr. Darko was a senior technology investment banker at Raymond James. Prior to Raymond James, Mr. Darko began his finance career at the Gores Group, a $3B Private Equity firm focused on Technology, Media and Telecom buyouts.
Nicholas Christopher co-founded Longshore in 2020 and co-leads its Investment Committee. Nick is responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, overseeing due diligence, structuring and negotiating transactions, portfolio management and investor relation. Prior to co-founding Longshore, Nick was a Partner at LaSalle Capital where he led a number of business services buyouts. He also previously worked at private equity funds UIB Capital and CIVC Partners as well as for Goldman Sachs & Co. in the investment banking division. A Michigan native, Nick holds a BA from Albion College and an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Bennett Thompson is one of the founding partners of Mountaingate and is a member of the firm’s investment committee. Bennett currently serves on the board of directors for Acceleration Partners, RevUnit, Bold Orange and ImagineSoftware. He previously served the boards of several KRG Capital portfolio companies including Diversified Foodservice Supply and Avizent. Prior to Mountaingate, Bennett gained 15 years of experience investing in the lower middle market at KRG Capital Partners and Heritage Partners, and started his career as an investment banker with Harris Williams & Co. Bennett graduated with a B.A. from Washington & Lee University where he also captained the men’s varsity soccer team. Bennett and his wife, Elizabeth, spend every moment they can in the mountains of Colorado with their two children. Bennett enjoys fly fishing, skiing, and outdoor adventures with his family. Bennett serves on the Board of Food For Thought, a nonprofit focused on eliminating hunger in Denver’s Title 1 schools.
